Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney scored a key celebrity endorsement on Thursday: Mr. Burns of The Simpsons.

Mr. Burns, who plays Homer’s boss, announced his endorsement of Romney during the latest episode of the feature hit.

“I have to say that, despite those unimaginably horrible good job numbers, we’re feeling pretty confident,” Burns says in a new “ad” endorsing Romney over President Barack Obama.

The ad pokes fun at Romney, who has faced a number of hurdles in recent weeks. The Simpsons, which is known for inserting various culture issue into their shows, featured Burns with his assistant, Smithers, who questions Burns about potential issues that could plague a Romney presidency.

“There’s only one thing that might deny us the presidency that is the God-given property of the Republican party,” Burns ponders.

“The 47 percent tape? The empty chair? The Cayman Islands? Swiss bank accounts? The $10,000 bet? ‘I like to fire people’? The forcible haircut? The tax returns that Wesley Snipes would call suspicious?” asks Smithers.

“No, no, no and no. It’s a shaggy-dog story about an actual shaggy dog,” Mr. Burns insists.

The fake endorsement is likely to spur discussions over Romney’s wealth, which has provided the Obama campaign with an excuse to paint the former Massachusetts governor as “out of touch” with average voters. Romney has faced criticism for his role at Bain Capital, one of the world’s leading private, alternative asset management firms. The Massachusetts Republican, who has a net worth around $250 million, has also faced criticism from the Obama campaign for his reluctance to release his tax returns from the past ten years.

The Burns endorsement comes just one week after Homer reportedly votes for Romney. In a clip promoting “The Simpsons” upcoming 24th season, Homer casts his ballot for the GOP candidate after ruling out President Obama.
