Madonna endorses Obama. Will it cost her fans?

Madonna’s endorsement of President Obama was met with jeers from the audience on Saturday, raising the question of whether the famed pop artist’s political statement will cost her fans.

Madonna, who was performing in New Orleans, was met with boos after she announced her endorsement of President Obama.

“I don’t care who you vote for as long as you vote for Obama,” she said, drawing boos and causing some fans to walk out. “Seriously, I don’t care who you vote for… Do not take this privilege for granted. Go vote.”

This is not the first time Madonna has made political comments that have gotten her into trouble with fans. In September she famously said, “Y’all better vote for fucking Obama, OK? For better or worse, all right? We have a black Muslim in the White House. Now that’s some amazing shit.”

The latest incident is raising questions about Madonna’s outspokenness. Earlier this year some Colorado fans, mindful of a mass shooting there, complained she used a fake gun to shoot a masked gunman in a recent concert act in Denver. A Madonna concert in Paris in July drew ire when a video showed a swastika on a politician’s forehead.

The singer is the latest high-profile entertainer to enter the debate over politics. Already a number of high profile actors and performers have held fundraisers for President Obama. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Anna Wintour,Scarlett Johansson, and Jay-Z are among some of the celebrities that have announced their support of Obama.

Meanwhile, celebrity endorsements of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney have drawn attention. The former Massachusetts governor allocated a key speaking slot to actor and director Clint Eastwood. The appearance drew widespread criticism following Eastwood’s rambling and awkward speech.

Following the incident, Madonna, 54, continued on with the high energy concert, which ended around midnight.
