Three relatives of child services shooter were brutally killed

Three female relatives of a woman who was recently taken into custody for allegedly killing a Vermont Department for Children and Families worker, have been found dead.

A woman found her mother and aunt, Rhonda and Regina Herring, slain in a Berlin farmhouse on Saturday along with their mother, Julie Ann Folzorano.

Berlin Police descried the scene as horrifying. They found a pile of shell casings as well as two other victims with gunshot wounds, according to NY Daily News.

“Both doors were wide open, and I walked into the living room and that’s where I saw my mom dead,” said Tiffany Herring.

The alleged assailant, Jody Herring, who shot and killed a caseworker with a hunting rifle was related to all three of the women that were killed. Authorities said that Herring killed the caseworker because she was upset over losing custody of her child.

Two of the victims in the recent slaying were Herring’s cousins.

The case worker that was gunned down with a bolt-action rifle with scope, was shot in the head twice at a close range when she was leaving a family court hearing at the state office building. Right after the shooting, Herring was tackled by bystanders and held under restraints until police arrived on the scene.

The attack came shortly after her 9-year-old was taken from her on July 9 into state custody.

“The employees at DCF deal with the most challenging family situations that one can imagine,” Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin said. “They do the work out of their dedication to the children and families of this great state. To lose one of our own in the course of that duty is shocking and heartbreaking.”

“Our prayers and thoughts tonight and in the coming days are with all the employees in Barre, their families and especially the family, friends and co-workers of the employee killed,” Vermont State Employees Association President Shelley Martin said.
