Authorities scrambling to find missing baby in Connecticut

Authorities are now calling it a recovery operation as hope of finding a Middletown baby alive subsides.

Authorities are now classifying the search for a baby from Middletown in Connecticut as a recovery operation as the search resumes today.

The search for 7-month-old Aaden Moreno began in earnest yesterday on the Connecticut River after police believe his 22-year-old father Tony Moreno threw him into the river shortly before jumping off the Arrigoni Bridge, according to a Fox CT report.

The incident shocked residents of the New England town, who remember him as a “happy little boy,” family member Tom Marino said according to the report. A vigil was held in honor of the toddler on Monday evening.

Moreno and his wife were having a custody dispute at the time, with a court date as recently as last week, which Moreno did not show up for. Aaden’s mother applied for a restraining order last month over fears for the child’s safety, and for her own safety. This restraining order was granted until a hearing late last month, when a judge mysteriously denied it.

Moreno is currently in stable condition after jumping, although he has suffered injuries to his face from the fall that are so severe he has been unable to answer questions. Police expect to file charges.

Moreno’s family called police late on Sunday night after he said he would commit suicide and had the baby with him, according to a Hartford Courant report.

According to court documents that were part of the child custody dispute, the mother, Adrianne Oyola, had applied for a restraining order, noting that Moreno was happy until she became pregnant, and then began to verbally abuse and threaten her, even pushing her.
