Believe it or not, a new Kurt Cobain album is in the works, posthumously. With the release of never-before-seen footage in the new documentary helmed by Brett Morgen, Montage of Heck, reveals some music that the “superstar-turned-martyr” never released.
According to Newsweek, the HBO documentary Montage of Heck about late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain contains privileged material never before shared with the public. After nearly eight years of meticulous cataloguing and scrutiny, director Brett Morgen brings forth a captivating film, which he spoke about as “de-mythologizing” the star, adding the film “may be the final chapter.”
With the issuance of a new album, perhaps that will be the final chapter. The new album is due out later this summer. According to Newsweek, the project bloomed after Morgen sifted through over 200 hours of audio and unreleased recordings and narrations, discovered in the California storage locker containing the singer’s personal belongings and mementos.
Straight from the singer’s private writings and personal recordings, all 108 cassettes of unreleased or “rarely” heard music are going to be put out on an “amazing album this summer that I think will answer that question.”
While some fans are skeptical of this latest album release, Morgen discusses the new material as something that will “serve the servants.” He adds, “fans are going to hear him do things you never expected to come out from him.” Early demos and jam sessions with his friends and widow, Courtney Love will all be shared as part of the latest album.
Many have speculated that Kurt was releasing a solo album around the time of his death, at least, he may have been tinkering with it. Guitarist of Hole, Love’s band, Eric Erlandson, says, “It would have been his White Album.”
