We’ve all been told that smoking a cigarette near a gas pump can get you killed in a fiery blaze. Well it seems that refusing the opportunity to self-ignite to a stranger can get you killed as well. An enraged Israeli woman has been arrested on Tuesday after she attempted to ignite a gas pump, and was successful. The woman approached a man at a gas station, asking for a cigarette, and when he refused, she became irate and lit his car on fire via the gas pump that was filling it.
The driver was filling up his car in Jerusalem yesterday when the woman pulled a lighter from her pocket and ignited the pump, Israeli police say. NBC News reports the Mickey Rosenfeld, foreign spokesperson for Israeli police forces, said that the woman denies having any intention to light the destructive fire. Rosenfeld said in a statement, “A woman approached a man while filling his petrol tank and asked for a cigarette. When he refused to give it to her she pulled out a lighter from her pocket and ignited the petrol pump.” Rosenfeld went on to say that the man acted quickly and instinctively, pulling the pump from the car and making a run for it. Employees at the gas station then extinguished the fire.
Amazingly, no injuries were reported. The driver’s brother was sitting in the passenger seat at the time when the woman lit the car on fire. The woman was arrested very soon after the incident and has since been admitted for psychological evaluation.
