Watch the Apple Watch get abused in vicious torture tests [VIDEO]

The Watch was smashed, boiled, and submerged in some aggressive tests -- including one that involved smashing it with an iron skillet.

Apple claims its new Watch is water-resistant, but a recent torture test saw just how much abuse the new gadget could take.

A CNET report went through a series of so-called torture tests during which the Apple Watch was dunked, slammed, scraped, and boiled — and it didn’t always pass the test.

Still, it held up pretty well. Other news outlets reportedly took the Watch into a shower, or wore it in the pool, and the watch still worked. The touchscreen even appears to work in the shower, although in the pool it stopped responding, according to a Digital Trends report.

Apple is careful to say that its Watch is water-resistant, not waterproof, but Apple appears to be hedging its bets as the Watch can handle a good bit of abuse.

Android Wear, on the other hand, appears to be not waterproof, although the Pebble is and can be worn in the shower.

However, if you’re going to drop $350 or more on a new gadget, it’s probably wise to avoid doing those things to it just to be on the safe side. Although it can handle sweat, the rain, and even a hand-washing, submerging the Apple Watch is not a good idea.

In the CNET video, it took an iron skillet to finally smash through the Apple Watch.

Still, not everything has been smooth sailing. A USA Today report found that lots of apps designed for the Apple Watch run slowly and take a long time to load, and can often be buggy. So despite there being thousands of apps for the watch, not all of them are up to snuff.

Experts say it may be that developers are rushing apps out the door in order to meet the launch without giving it adequate tests.
