Due to an unlikely series of events, Derek Hough has seriously injured both of his feet and may not be able to continue on Dancing with the Stars this season. “A fluke accident happened that involved a light and some stairs. Can’t believe it, wish I had a cooler story to tell,” said the dancer on Instagram this Wednesday.
The pictures Mr. Hough posted from the E.R. show him wearing protective supports on both of his feet. Mr. Hough has been seen since the accident walking around with the help of crutches. Fellow dancer Mark Ballas, who accompanied Derek to the hospital, has said that it is still unclear how bad the injuries are.
Maria Menounos was rehearsing with Derek for the Dancing with the Stars tenth-anniversary special when he was injured. She posted an Instagram photo of the staircase that was apparently responsible for the injury.
ABC has yet to comment about the extent of Mr. Hough’s injuries or whether he will be able to return to the show this season. Nastia Liukin, the Olympic gold medalist who was partnered with Hough this season, is now rehearsing with Sasha Farber, another member of the show’s dancing team. Mr. Farber will also be taking Derek’s place in the tenth-anniversary special.
Derek also missed rehearsal for the Radio City Music Hall Spring Spectacular. He may have to be replaced in that show because of his injuries.
