Lester Holt of NBC “Nightly News” won the race for the audience between the ages of 25 and 54, which is considered as ad audience, despite losing to ABC in overall viewing. Holt eventually beat out David Muir from ABC’s “World News Tonight” and Scott Pelley from CBS’s “Evening News“ in this category of viewing.
It was reported that Nielsen numbers showed anchorman Holt had lured the best numbers of viewers that are between 25 and 54. These numbers occurred during five days of April, starting on April 13 and ending on April 17.
Holt is currently in place of anchor Brian Williams who is on a six-month suspension. Williams had falsified accounts of an NBC news trip to Iraq back in 2003. Currently while on suspension, NBC is investigating Williams. However, many feel that the anchor should not come back to anchor the news on NBC.
In the meanwhile, the battle for viewers continues with the networks regarding the evening news. For the most part, most of the pushing and shoving is occurring between ABC and NBC. The margin to decide who has more viewers is said to be thin.
According to Nielsen, ABC had the most viewers within the five days that were monitored in April. This was news to NBC since the network had their evening news as the most watched for more than five years. Still, NBC holds the title for having viewers between 25 and 54.
In the end, the battle between the networks is close between ABC and NBC. Lester Holt was able to get the attention of most middle age viewers for NBC, while ABC has more viewers overall. In the end, the line between the two networks is very thin, believed to be by 5 percent in favor of ABC.
