Dr. Oz responds to scathing attack letter written by group of doctors

Dr. Oz tells critics that he "will not be silenced."

America’s favorite Doctor, Dr. Mehmet Oz, will respond to critics who claim the doctor compromises his ethics for financial gain.

Last week, a group of 10 doctors sent a letter to Columbia University demanding Oz’s resignation, calling his “presence on the faculty of a prestigious medical institution unacceptable.”

“Dr. Oz is guilty of either outrageous conflicts of interest or flawed judgements about what constitutes appropriate medical treatments, or both,” the group said in their letter to the Dean of the Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine. “Whatever the nature of his pathology, members of the public are being misled and endangered.”

The letter goes on to accuse Oz of “an egregious lack of integrity by promoting quack treatments and cures in the interest of personal financial gain.”

Columbia stands behind Oz and release a statement saying that they are “committed to the principle of academic freedom and to upholding faculty members’ freedom of expression for statements they make in public discussion.”

Oz plans to respond to these allegations on an upcoming episode of his talk show, airing Thursday, April, 23rd. About two-thirds of the episode will be dedicated to his rebuttal of the doctors’ claims.  The show released a preview of the episode earlier today.

“I know I’ve irritated some potential allies in our quest to make America healthy,” Oz states in the preview. “No matter our disagreements, freedom of speech is the most fundamental right we have as Americans. And these 10 doctors are trying to silence that right. We will not be silenced; we will not give in.”

After his episode airs, Oz will appear on the Today show for a follow up interview.
