Warner Bros. & DC Entertainment (DC Comics) are set to launch a new line of videos, graphic novels and other items around some of the most iconic DC super girls. The fall of 2015 should see the new universe action-figures with apparel- appropriate for the 6 – 12 age group of girls.
This new project comes in response to the many girls who love super heroes and want to see themselves in the same position in their fantasies to be a super hero as do their male counterparts. This appears to follow along with the Marvel Universe which focuses on an older audience.
Some of the characters featured in the DC super girl universe are: Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumble Bee, Poison Ivy and Katana in their formative years. The president of DC Entertainment, Diane Nelson, said during a recent press conference, ” [It] represents the embodiment of our long-term strategy to harness the power of our diverse female characters”.
Fall of 2015 will represent the formative years while they are learning about themselves and their powers as well as “nurturing and mastering the fundamentals of being a hero or (villain)”. For the tech savvy girls, there will also be digital content of the story so it can be followed along with the new shows.
In 2016, a new phase will follow featuring TV specials, videos, toys, apparel and books. DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are partnering with Lego and Mattel to launch separate toy lines, while there may be a new set of books including graphic novels with Random House.
