John Stamos, most famous for his beloved role as Uncle Jesse, revealed to Jimmy Kimmel Live this past Monday that Full House would get a 13-episode reboot on Netflix. Rumors have been circulating that a reunion was in the works for over a year, but Netflix has confirmed that the remake, Fuller House, will premiere in 2016.
“We’ve been working on this for many, many years. The original creator, Jeff Franklin, and Bob Boyett and Tom Miller, we were trying to do some kind of spinoff,” Stamos shared. “We wanted to give credit to the legacy. We didn’t want to just sort of throw it away.”
We’ve been literally trying for so many years to do it right, ” he continues, “And I think we finally got it perfect.”
The main cast will be made up of several returning Full House actors, including, Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber. John Stamos will reprise his role as Uncle Jesse and will produce the series along side, Full House creator, Jeff Franklin.
Netflix says they are in talks with several of the other Full House cast to appear in a one-hour reunion premiere episode. No word yet on if fan favorites like Bob Saget, the Olsen Twins, Laurie Loughlin, or Dave Coulier will make an appearance.
“If we can’t get the Olsen twins, we’re gonna dress you up,” Stamos joked with Jimmy Kimmel.
The show will begin full circle with a recently widowed DJ Tanner (Candace Cameron-Bure) moving into the iconic San Francisco house to raise her children with the help of her sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and her best friend, Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) and her teenage daughter.
“As big fans of the original Full House, we are thrilled to be able to introduce Fuller House‘s new narrative to existing fans worldwide, who grew up on the original, as well as a new generation of global viewers that have grown up with the Tanners in syndication,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix vice president of original content, in a statement to USA Today.
