What brings back one of the most famous single ladies of all time to HBO? Divorce of course.
Sarah Jessica Parker, leading lady of the hugely successful “Sex and the City” series which aired on HBO before there was every a GOT (“Game of Thrones”), is back in a big way. This time, she’ll be playing a married woman who is going through a very, very long divorce. The other end of the dating spectrum!
In The Huffington Post, the show is described as a “half-hour long comedy” following Sarah Jessica as the character Frances, who is described as “a woman who suddenly begins to reassess her life and her marriage, and finds that making a clean break and a fresh start is harder than she thought.” Her husband will be played by veteran actor Thomas Haden Church in the character Robert, who is surprised to learn that his wife’s perspective on their marriage is different from his own.
Molly Shannon and Tali Balsam will also be joining the cast as Frances’ friends, who are very successful, but without children. “Divorce” is written by Sharon Horgan, who will also be recognized as the executive producer, alongside Sarah Jessica, Paul Simms, Alison Benson and Aaron Kaplan. Jesse Peretz is set to direct the highly anticipated pilot.
Variety announced the ordering of the show, as well, saying “It’s official. “Sex and the CIty” star Sarah Jessica Parker is returning to HBO for another New York rom com.”
The half-hour comedy is set to shoot in New York this year. Fortunately for Parker, her home is already in New York.
Fans of the “Sex and the City” series, along with HBO executives are sure to be thrilled with a fresh new take on familiar territory. This show is certainly set in Sarah Jessica’s wheel house.
