NBC pulls ‘Wizard of Oz’ spin-off series ‘Emerald City’ out of development limbo

NBC’s announcements are always pleasurable and this one takes the cake this week! The network will be bringing back the “Wizard of Oz” series “Emerald City.” According to media sources, Executive Producer David Schulner will have his work cut out for him as he entices audiences with this revived drama series.

The new direction of the series will be based on Dorothy Gale, a 20-year-old girl who is transported to another world. Gale and her K9 police dog are now in a mystical world of competitive kingdoms and lethal warriors surrounded by black magic as the battle for supremacy begins. The show’s setting is a version of the land of Oz where wicked witches resurrect, and Dorothy becomes a warrior who holds the fate of the kingdoms in her hands.

This mystical series was picked up in January 2014 as a 10-episode series. NBC later decided not to move forward with the drama series after producers were not able to agree on the direction for the show. Studio Universal TV then shopped the series at Comic-Con last year with the intention of getting it back on air by 2015.

Executive Producer David Schulner has taken on the challenge of continuing the series right after overseeing the series “Dracula.” Fans of “Emerald City” will be awaiting anxiously to see what will become of this mystical version of the “Wizard of Oz.”

“Emerald City” will be NBC’s fourth series for the 2015-2016 season and is up alongside “Telenovela,” “Shades of Blue,” and “Coach.” What a line-up!
