Marvel will keep Mark Ruffalo busy despite not actually owning rights to the ‘Hulk’

The actor says any new standalone “Hulk” movies will be entirely in the hands of Universal Pictures.

Fans looking to see Hulk smash during the hotly anticipated “Avengers: Age of Ultron’’ may have to keep those images ingrained for an indefinite amount of time when they hit theaters May 1.

Mark Ruffalo, who plays Dr. Bruce Banner, the alter ego of Hulk, in the latest “Avengers” offering,  told MovieWeb that any new standalone “Hulk” movies will be entirely in the hands of Universal Pictures, the movie company who owns to the rights menacing monster/hero.

“Marvel doesn’t really have the rights to [the Hulk] yet,’’ Ruffalo said. “That’s still Universal’s property, so there’s that issue. That’s a big impediment to moving forward with that. Now I don’t think that’s insurmountable, by the way, but I don’t know where it’s going from here for me.”

What is known is that Ruffalo has he still has four more movies left on his contract, after “Ultron” — though, he has no idea what those four movies will be. As of now, he is not yet signed on to appear in next summer’s “Captain America: Civil War.’’ And he might not be seen again until “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1’’ in 2018.

“I think it’s four now, but that could always go further,’’ Ruffalo said. “That could include different– I could show up in another character’s movie.’’

And that movie will be likely “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” another highly anticipated Marvel sequel.

“Sometimes these things happen at the last minute in this world,’’ Ruffalo said.  “I really don’t know where I fit in from here on out, and I’m not sure [Marvel and Universal Pictures] do.”
