Apple Watch pre-orders top 1 million on first day

On the first day that the Apple Watch was available for pre-order, over one-million orders were placed in the U.S.

Of the estimated one-million orders taken for the Apple Watch, a majority were for the least expensive model. The price for the Sport model was $382.83 with the mid-tier costing buyers $707.04, according to USA Today.

For the first time with a new Apple product launch, the company made the items obtainable for purchase only online, not in stores.

Orders were open starting Friday at 3:01 a.m. ET, with shipments starting in the end of April, but stretching through the summer.

Unlike prior sales launches that released opening-weekend sales information on the following Monday, there has been no indication this data will be released by Apple about the orders. Although so far, analysts feel fairly confident their predictions have come true with

Apple selling about one-million units on the first round, according to Slice Intelligence.

The watch is a potential game-changer in the market of wearables. Analysts are fairly optimistic for the Apple Watch to exceed the already confident expectations. It will be the first major device fromApple with CEO Tim Cook in the driver’s seat.

The Watch price can reach up to $17,000 plus the price of a new iPhone, necessary to use the device. The three models, the Watch Sport, the standard Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Edition can all be personalized in numerous ways are clearly targeted more toward the luxury buyer.

Slice Intelligence has been collecting sales data for this first weekend of sales for the Apple Watch. They noted that in addition to sales for the new device, Apple sold 48,000 of its new Macbooks on Friday, with an estimated 43% of those buyers having also bought an Apple Watch.
