New ‘Lego’ video game allows fans to play ‘in the virtual world and in the real world’

Legos has partnered with Warner Bros. Interactive and TT Games to create a new toys-to-life video game Lego Dimensions. The game will feature fan favorite characters from universes such as DC Comics, The LEGO Movie and The Lord of the Rings.

“LEGO Dimensions is unlike anything that we have ever done,” said Niels Jørgensen, Vice President, Digital Games for the LEGO Group. “It further extends the LEGO play experience into the digital world with all of the characters, humor and action of LEGO videogames now combined with the fun of LEGO minifigure and model building.”

On the launch date, players will be able to purchase a “starter pack”,  the game itself, as well as the LEGO Toy Pad, which allows players to transport special LEGO minifigures and other LEGO objects into the game, bricks to build the LEGO Gateway, three LEGO Minifigures, including LEGO Batman™ from DC Comics, LEGO Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings and Wyldstyle from The LEGO Movie.

Lego Dimensions will allow players to purchase additional LEGO expansion packs that they can use within the game to build characters, vehicles, locations and more. Packs to be released in 2015 include a Back to the Future pack, a Wizard of Oz pack and The LEGO Movie pack. Several more expansion packs are in the works for after the game has launched.

“For the first time in a videogame, LEGO fans can play in the virtual world and in the real world – combining everything without restrictions,” stated Jon Burton, Founder and Creative Director of TT Games. “Imagine putting LEGO Gollum from The Lord of the Rings behind the wheel of the LEGO DeLorean Time Machine in New Ninjago City – the creative play is endless.”

Lego Dimensions will be available to play PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U on September 27, 2015.
