In the midst of one of the most sought-after places to live in New York City, cast members from one of the most watched shows on television kicked off its fourth season among inquisitive fans, including Arianna Huffington and Katie Couric.
“I binge watch it,” said Couric, in her adoration of HBO’s ‘Veep’ during its Monday night premiere at the SVA Theater in Chelsea.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays the title character, posed for pictures with her co-star Anna Chlumsky, who plays one of her advisers. Sam Richardson joins the cast for the fourth season, which premieres April 12.
Afterward, party buses transported fans to Gotham Hall near Herald Square, where waiters were dressed as Secret Service agents. Fran Lebowitz hung out with the show’s executive producer, Frank Rich.
At the end of Season 3, Louis-Dreyfus’s character, Selina Meyer, ascended to the Oval Office after the president resigned to spend more time with his suicidal wife.
On the first episode, the new president goes before Congress and fumbles with the teleprompter. On the second, a state dinner with the Israeli prime minister offers plenty of opportunities for screw-ups.
Several guests approached Timothy Simons, who plays the despised White House liaison Jonah Ryan. His character spent much of the first two episodes being hazed.
“It was not the first time my crotch was grabbed by a dude,” Simons told The New York Times. “I came up in theater.”
Guests also asked Louis-Dreyfus several questions about the show, including what she thought Hillary Clinton would make of her character becoming the first female president.
“Well,” Louis-Dreyfus told The New York Times, “I think she’d be bummed because she wants to be the first woman president. But I’m guessing she’d think, ‘I could do better than that.’ But any fool could.”
