Tejano star Selena Quintanilla will be making a comeback almost 20 years after her death.
It was announced on the official Facebook page that a “walking, talking, singing, and dancing, digital embodiment of iconic singer, Selena,” is in the works.
The hologram, created by California based tech company Acrovirt, will be named “Selena The One” and will work on new projects including releasing new songs, collaborating with popular artists and even hopes to go on tour in 2018.
“Selena is a Latin American icon who was taken before her time.” says Acrovirt co-founder Terry Kennedy in an official statement. “Acrovirt and the Quintanilla family are excited to announce that Selena will continue to share her creative talents with the world in a new innovative way.”
Prior to her death Selena Quintianilla, more commonly known by the mononym Selena, was often describes as the “Queen of Tejano music.” As a singer, spokesperson and actress, Selena was one of the most prominent Mexican Americans of the 20th century. Unfortunately, she met an untimely end when she was murdered by her agent at the young age of twenty-three.
The hologram reboot has been done before with the holograms of the famously deceased making surprise appearances at festivals such as Coachella. It’s something that gives fans mixed feelings. Many Selena fans are excited to see new work by their beloved artist and can’t wait to see what direction “Selena The One” takes; others are weirded out by the possibility.
Fans who wish to see “Selena The One” become a reality can contribute to an IndieGoGo campaign that will launch on April 16, Selena’s birthday.
