B.B. King leaves hospital

How his health is faring now.

Blues legend B.B. King, 89, was rushed to the hospital last Friday after suffering a highly publicized dehydration as a complication of his diabetes.

As reported in Reuters, the veteran blues guitarist is “feeling much better;” and is “heading home after being hospitalized for diabetes-related issues.”

In the article in Reuters, his representative LaVerne Toney remarked that it was in fact true the cause of his recent hospitalization. On Tuesday, King gave thanks to his many fans for their “concern and good wishes” on his official Facebook page, where he also announced that he was “feeling much better & am leaving the hospital today.”

Fascinating how social media has become so vitally instrumental in stars’ ability to communicate directly with fans, keeping them up-to-date in a timely fashion, without the need for an official press release or communication through several networks to get the message across.

As a beloved guitarist, known as the “King of Blues,” King is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, with artists like Eric Clapton citing him as a great influence.

This isn’t the first time King has suffered from health problems, interrupting his ability to perform. Just last Fall, King was forced to cancel eight live performances, after falling ill on stage in Chicago.

The LA Times shared that King’s daughter, Claudette, told The Times that he was suffering from Type II diabetes. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, as shared by The LA Times, was diagnosed with the disease more than two decades ago, finding ways to manage his disease and balance the treatment of it with his performances.

B.B. King, beloved by many, was said to be doing “much better” by both his daughter and representatives. His hits “Three O’Clock Blues,” “The Thrill is Gone” and “When Love Comes to Town” have remained crowd favorites of King’s stage repertoire.

Many are relieved that King has left the hospital and is recuperating so that he can get back to being the “King of the Blues.”
