B.B. King hospitalized due to dehydration

King also canceled a concert tour due to dehydration and exhaustion last October.

The music world got a scare on Monday, when blues guitar legend B.B. King was hospitalized for dehydration.

According to a report from Mashable, dehydration has been a frequent issue for King as of late. Last October, he canceled an entire concert tour after a performance at Chicago’s House of Blues. In the middle of the Chicago set, King had begun feeling exhausted and ill, symptoms that he had reportedly developed as a result of dehydration. King has not gone out on the road since, and there are currently no upcoming events listed listed on his website.

King’s dehydration problems themselves are caused by a deeper medical condition: type 2 diabetes. The 89-year-old legend was first diagnosed with diabetes 20 years ago, and has been living with the condition and continuing his music career ever since. However, these recent dehydration issues are cause for concern among King fans, not only because of the guitarist’s old age, but also because they have seemingly put his music life on hold.

Luckily, King’s daughter Claudette has reported that her father “is doing much better” since being taken to the hospital yesterday.

B.B. King, of course, is one of the most iconic and influential musicians of all time, having released more than 50 albums since beginning his recording career all the way back in 1949. He’s won 15 Grammys, been a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1987, is known around the world as “The King of Blues,” and is recognized as one of the greatest and most distinctive guitar players in history.

Here’s hoping King makes a full recovery.
