Her team leased two floors of a large corporate office building in an area where celebrities like Lena Dunham hang their hats.
Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton has chosen campaign headquarters in Brooklyn, just across from lower Manhattan in a well-to-do area that is home to many celebrities.
The team representing Clinton, who served as a New York senator for a number of years before being selected to be Secretary of State in President Obama’s administration, signed a lease on Wednesday for its Brooklyn Heights office building, indicating her official announcement is coming soon, according to a New York Daily News report.
After conducting “campaign activity,” including leasing office space, the Federal Election Commission requires that candidates create a campaign committee within 15 days.
A total of two floors has reportedly been leased, which includes about 80,000 square feet. The team will belocated in the same building as Morgan Stanley as well as employees of the Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch, is also a nominee for Attorney General.
Conservatives were quick to criticize hte location, with America Rising, a pro-Republican political action committee, pointing out that it was just a short ride across the bridge to Wall Street, something that is “terrible news for Elizabeth Warren Democrats,” according to the report.
Other locations that were considered include Queens and Westchester County.
Brooklyn Heights has some famous residents, including actress Lena Dunham and documentary filmmaker and Academy Award winner Errol Morris. It features some of the hallmarks of an expensive and trendy area, including a private school that charges upwards of $25,000 per year.
The marketing slogan of the building where Clinton’s staff will work is, “Modern offices. Brooklyn cool.”
Although Hillary Clinton and her husband, Bill Clinton, hail from Arkansas where the latter governed for a few years before being elected president in 1992, New York soon became her adopted home after her husband left the White House in 2001. Her family first purchased a home in Chappaqua in 1999, and she was later elected as a U.S. senator representing New York.
