The documentary shares unseen footage of the late singer.
On July 3, 2015, theaters across the UK and Ireland will release the highly anticipated documentary about late singer Amy Winehouse, entitled Amy: The Girl Behind the Name.
CNN reports that the very “first trailer for a documentary on the life and music of late British singer Amy Winehouse was released Thursday.” Never-before-seen footage of the late singer, discussing her thoughts on fame and living in the public eye, will be shown in great detail throughout the exposing documentary, set first to release in the UK.
In an article for CNN, this snippet was included by the late singer/songwriter who had many adoring fans: “Singing has always been important to me, but I never thought, ‘I’ll end up singing’ or ‘I’ll be a singer.’” Curious, how someone with such immense talent and charisma might not see the bright star she was to become.
Winehouse rose to fame at an early age, hitting the club circuit in London, treating her fellow classmates to performance on the high school stage. After leaving high school, Amy was signed with Simon Fuller’s 19 Management, where she was kept as somewhat of a recording industry secret.
She fostered her talent and released the album Frank, in 2003. She became an international sensation in 2006 and 2007 with the release of her seminal Back to Black. The documentary will share unseen details surrounding these events.
CNN goes on to state that “Winehouse, known for her bluesy voice, bouffant hairdo and numerous tattoos, struggled publicly with drugs and alcohol during a career in which she recorded two albums and won six Grammys (one posthumous.” Tragically, the singer died from alcohol poisoning at the age of 27 on July 23, 2011.
Many of her friends and peers saw this tragic end coming.
This documentary, unlike a previous documentary about the singer entitled Fallen Star, was approved of and endorsed by Winehouse’s family. There are sure to be more revealing truths about the late singer in the highly anticipated documentary.
As of now, a U.S. release date has yet to be announced.
