The actor hints he may be finished with the role.
After a long journey as the man with the sharp metal claws, Hugh Jackman hints that he may be playing Wolverine, one last time.
NY Daily News reports that Jackman posted a photo on Instagram of his hands with the famed claws with the caption: “WOLVERINE…ONE LAST TIME,” which would indicate that this may be the last time the actor decides to don the metal weapons which have become so synonymous with the character.
The actor has fueled rumors that he’s decided to leave the iconic character behind and move on to other roles, once he’s done filming “Wolverine 3,” which is planned to be released in March 2017. That’s not for another two years, so maybe the multi-talented actor will change his mind by then.
Jackman has played the part of Wolverine a whopping total of seven times, including the two stand-alone “Wolverine” films which branched off the original X-Men franchise. He also had a brief cameo in “X-Men: First Class, “ where he appeared as the character with the claws. His image as the character was last seen when he played Wolverine in 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
Fans will surely be delighted to see the actor portray the iconic superhero mutant, despite indications that he is hanging up his claws once and for all. Just last year, the Broadway star and host of the Tony Awards shared that he was “enjoying it more than ever;” however, the 46-year-old actor shared that he was feeling his age in the role and shared his thoughts on what other Wolverine stories he’d like to depict in the not-so-distant future. Could this be “Wolverine 3”?
Knowing that this may be the last time he plays the well-liked role may invite fans to rush to the theaters to enjoy their beloved hero, one last time.
Before we get to “Wolverine 3”, we’ll have another installment of X-Men, which means more Wolverine, in “X-Men Apocalypse,” due out May 2016.
