After six successful seasons on Fox, “Glee” took its final bow last night. Friday, March 20th marked the final episode of the beloved show, which followed an eclectic group of members of the William McKinley High School glee club.
According to CNN, the first hour of season finale titled “2009” was a retelling of the first episode, for the first hour, which included a memorable performance of Journey’s seminal “Don’t Stop Believing” by the original members of the glee club. The finale then showed what led the other characters to join New Directions, ending in a hugely emotional performance that packed a punch with a featured performance by the dearly departed cast member, Cory Monteith.
With a dedicated fan base who stuck through the uneven six seasons and the loss of star Cory Monteith, the show’s first season was definitely its best, winning awards and hitting high notes with a passionate audience.
In the second half of the two-hour series finale, the audience got to view the characters’ dreams come true in a flash-forward to the future. A recap: Rachel who is now married to Jesse, wins a Tony Award; Mercedes sings with Queen Bae, Beyonce; Kurt and Blaine are successful Broadway stars; and Vice President Sue Sylvester starts her second term in the Jeb Bush administration.
On “Glee,” dreams do come true. The entire cast of New Directions, pas and present, got together one last time in the auditorium, which is now named after Finn. They sang one last song and ended with a quote: “See the world not as it is, but as it should be.”
Fans greatly appreciated the perfectly buttoned up ending, sharing tributes and celebrating the show on social media. One fan wrote: “Speechless! That was the perfect ending to an epic show!”
