Oh, Liza. Not again!

The 69-year-old Cabaret star and daughter of Judy Garland, who died of drug-related complications, has checked into a Malibu rehab facility, the name of which is not being disclosed at the moment.

People Magazine reported that “Minnelli has battled substance abuse over the years and has sought out treatment in the past.”

The first time was in 1984, when the actress-singer-songwriter was treated for addiction to drugs and alcohol, following the death of her mother, who died of an overdose of sleeping pills in 1969. Tragically, the “Wizard of Oz” child actress who sought to maintain a steady career post-Dorothy era, suffered grave emotional and mental trauma, which contributed to her eventual fatal dose of sleeping pills.

Much like her mother, Liza has enjoyed success on the screen; however, her attachment to such negative patterns have brought her down to a difficult level in her professional life and her personal life. “She’s living her mother’s career all over again – being the biggest star in show business, peaking out in films, the weird marriages, the pills, the booze, “ a lifelong friend of Minelli’s, who grew up with her in Beverly Hills, told People.

The relationship between then fourth husband, producer-promoter David Gest, ended in 2002, due to what court papers reveal as alcohol-related. Gest claimed that there were many “abusive, alcohol-fueled incidents (which) occurred during their 16-month marriage.”

Minnelli, who has sought treatment in the past, apparently checked herself in several days ago and is being treated mainly for the abuse of alcohol. US Weekly goes on to share that “she is making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility.” While television executives have sought to capitalize on the fact that Minnelli has sought treatment for abuse of drugs and alcoholic, the actress maintains a private approach to her recovery process, turning down such offers as Celebrity Rehab, for which she was reportedly offered $500,000 to appear on the show.

Hopefully, the Hollywood royalty will overcome this battle and find peace within herself, allowing her to conquer her demons and the Hollywood screen, triumphantly.
