How the cast is liking their new 'network.'
Same cast, same laughs, different channel. What’s changed about the ensemble comedy starring Joel McHale now that it’s moved online to Yahoo. Well, first of all, the screens are smaller. Or are they?
With the growing trend of streaming as a primary source of receiving viewership for shows like ‘Community’ networks are likely to let go of lesser performing shows and release them into the wild that is online streaming. Syndicates like Netflix and Amazon are dominating the streaming platform and Yahoo seems to be taking a different approach in adopting shows that have already been performing well on the air.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast feels “loved – not that we needed to feel loved, but Yahoo came down and gave us this big spiel about being in movie theaters, doing signage, being all over the place, and we were just silent at the end of the speech.” Perhaps the same kind of personal attention and star treatment wasn’t happening over at NBC. The peacock has been known for its outlandish, colorful, staple sitcoms over the years. ‘Seinfeld’ being its most successful series to date.
The days of the reigning sitcom, with the exception of a few front-runners like ‘Big Bang Theory’ and ‘Two and a Half Men’ (both Chuck Lorre creations), the networks have been struggling to stay afloat with their regular programming, given the influx of brand new, sturdy competition.
Joel McHale of the show comments on the show itself: “I know the episodes are great; the writing continues to be great. That’s why we all like the show – because it’s working and the writing is so good. I know when this ends, it will all be an insanely hard act to follow.”
As long as there’s laughs and a steady gush of on demand comedy, these streaming outlets are thriving and here to stay.
