World’s oldest living cat turns 27

A tortoiseshell cat named Tiffany Two turned 27 years old this weekend – the equivalent of an amazing 125 human years.

Tiffany Two officially holds the record for oldest living cat, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. She was born on March 13, 1988 in San Diego, California. Her owner, Sharon Voorhees, bought Tiffany Two as a kitten six weeks later for $10. Voorhees maintains that that was the “best money she ever spent.”

Although Tiffany Two holds the record for oldest living cat today, she still falls shy of the monumental age of the oldest cat recorded in recent history. Before his death in 2005, a cat named Crème Puff reached the ripe old age of 38 years old – that is, the equivalent of an astounding 169 human years. Crème Puff was born in Austin, Texas on August 3, 1967, and died on August 6, 2005.

Despite Tiffany Two’s advanced age, Voorhees says that “she still manages to get around well and even still has good vision and hearing.” Voorhees also claims that Tiffany Two has only recently begun needing to eat soft food instead of dry, and remains relatively adventurous. “She’s not afraid of anything or anyone. She walks right past the dogs, she’s very feisty!”

Tiffany Two was celebrated on social media when Guinness World Records tweeted its well wishes: “Happy Birthday Tiffany Two! World’s oldest cat living is 27 today.”
