Bristol Palin is thrilled to be engaged to U.S. Marine and medal of honor winner Dakota Meyer

America congratulates the happy couple.

Bristol Palin, 24, daughter of Alaska governor and past Vice President hopeful, Sarah Palin has announced her engagement to U.S. Marine and 2011 Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer.

According to CNN, Meyer, 26, proposed to Palin, Friday night at a Rascal Flatts concert in Las Vegas. Palin shared with her fans and followers on her blog, saying, “The lead singer, Gary Le Vox, dedicated ‘Bless the Broken Road’ to us, and then Dakota got down on one knee and proposed! It’s amazing what happens when you place everything in life in God’s hands.”

Meyer received the award for braving enemy fire in 2009 to recover an astounding 36 American and Afghan troops in Afghanistan. The Medal of Honor is the highest military honor and the former U.S. Marine is the third living recipient of the U.S. Medal of Honor since Vietnam.

As shared on People, 51-year-old mom Sarah Palin took to Facebook to share her view: “ Our families couldn’t be happier for Bristol and Dakota!” An American hero and a patriot who served our country proudly, Dakota met Palin when he visited Alaska to film “Amazing America,” Sarah Palin’s show on Sportsman Channel.

Bristol went on to share that Dakota “met Tripp (her son) at that time, and I’ve seen him in a few places where our paths have crossed since. He’s visited us in Alaska, and I’ve visited his wonderful family in Kentucky.” Most importantly to her: “He’s wonderful with Tripp and I’m so proud to be marrying him.”

Fans took to Meyers’ Instagram and shared on the couples’ photo announcing the engagement: “This is so ‘MERICA that my mind is blown right now.”

Sarah Palin points out that he’s “a good and kind man who loves Bristol and Tripp, and is loved by them.” (Tripp is Bristol’s six-year-old son with ex, Levi Johnston.)

“I’m definitely the luckiest guy ever,” Meyer said in an Instagram photo of the pair tagged #shesaidyes.

So did America.
