Michele Obama gets funky with Ellen DeGeneres and ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ All Stars

Michele Obama is bringing some funk to the daytime talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show on an upcoming segment set to air on Monday. Producers released a preview of the taped appearance Friday which illustrates Ellen and the first lady performing a dance routine alongside So You Think You Can Dance All Stars. The ladies were breaking it down to Uptown Funk, the hit song by producer Mark Ronson and pop artist Bruno Mars.

Before the dance even began, the first lady paused and her microphone’s battery pack hits the floor. She quickly comments that the routine has some “hip thrusting.” “There’s a lot of it,” she said.

This is not the last time that she will perform this high-energy, fairly difficult routine. And it was not all for show. Michele Obama announced that she will be joining the So You Think You Can Dance All Stars on April 6 at the White House Easter Egg Roll to teach everyone the routine, or the #GimmeFive dance challenge.

The first lady sat down with Ellen to discuss #GimmeFive and her anti-childhood obesity campaign Let’s Move! The idea is for people to share five ways in which they are leading a healthy lifestyle on social media using #GimmeFive. She said that several celebrities decided to participate. Nick Jonas, Beyonce and Ryan Seacrest participated, to name a few, along with some of the astronauts at the International Space Station.

The first lady was on set for the show’s taping Thursday. It will air on March 16, the fifth anniversary of her Let’s Move! campaign. This is the fourth time that Michele Obama has appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

President Obama was in California the same day to tape his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that aired that night. He proceeded to read mean tweets on a popular segment on Kimmel’s late night talk show.
