The upcoming James Bond film Spectre will be the 24th installment in the franchise, and more cast continues to be revealed. The most recent addition is 28 year-old Stephanie Sigman who will play the character Estrella. Is it yet unknown if the character of Estrella will be will be of the good or bad character variety.
The Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman is probably best known for her role in The Bridge on FX. Prior to that she starred in the 2011 academy award nominated thriller Miss Bala which was about a character involved in both beauty pageants and drug traffickers. Soon she will be starring on a Netflix drama series about drugs entitled Narcos.
Sony and MGM released a joint statement on the official James Bond Facebook page.
“We are pleased to announce that Stephanie Sigman has joined the cast of Spectre as Estrella. The Mexican actress was the lead in the Academy awards-nominated Miss Bala (2011) and also starred in Norway’s submission for best film at this year’s Oscars, Pioneer (2013). Her recent TV appearances include The Bridge (2013) and Narcos (2015).”
Spectre has already made headlines for a different Bond girl addition, by hiring Monica Bellucci. 50 year-old Bellucci will be the oldest Bond girl that the franchise has ever had, and she in fact three years older than Daniel Craig who plays Bond himself.
Other cast members include Christoph Waltz, Ralph Fiennes,Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Dave Bautista, Rory Kinnear, and of course Daniel Craig who will be returning to the franchise for the fourth time.
Sam Mendez is returning as director for Spectre, after successfully directing 2012’s Skyfall. The significance of the title Spectre can referenced in some of the earlier films of the series, where Spectre was an acronym for Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion.
The plot of the film follows Bond as he deciphers a cryptic message to reveal as evil corporation. The estimated showing date for Spectre is Nov. 6. It is currently in production now.
