Looks like the amicable divorce Nick and Mariah promised might be a “Fantasy.”
TMZ reports that the “America’s Got Talent” host has filed a new lawsuit against multiplatinum-selling songbird Carey, alleging that her business manager purposefully sold their Beverly Hills home for an egregiously low amount, without consulting him in advance.
Cannon says he never authorized the $9 million unloading of the home he and Carey used to share, and believes manager Michael Kane was dealing exclusively with her people on the sale.
Although the house originally went on sale in February 2014 for $12,995,000, Kane responds that Cannon’s lawsuit is frivolous and without merit, claiming that “[it’s] clearly a desperate act from a sadly desperate man.”
Cannon’s issue is not with the home’s sale, but rather that he was kept in the dark about it. For now, he is requesting the funds be frozen until a detailed accounting statement can be generated in order to clarify how much he and Carey will get.
Even at the relatively inflated original asking price, the new owners of the Cannon/Carey former love nest are unlikely to be disappointed in their purchase. Variety reports that the home is definitely closer to a castle:
“There are formal living and dining rooms, a double-height foyer and a home theater as well as a game room, recording studio, indoor basketball court and a so-called Aspen Room, a capacious, 32-foot-long rustic-luxe, stone-floored entertainment lounge with massive field-stone fireplace, full bar, backyard access and long views over the Stone Canyon Reservoir.”
Either way Cannon and Carey stand to make an impressive profit once the dust settles – they purchased the mansion in April 2009 for $6,975,000 from audio engineer and producer Allen Sides.
