Bill Cosby faces defamation suit after denying sexual assault

One of the comedian's first accusers, Tamara Green, has filed a civil suit.

Bill Cosby’s downward spiral continues. He is now facing a 3rd lawsuit, as one of the women who has accused him of sexual assault has sued him for defamation in Massachusetts.

According to Reuters, Tamara Green, 66, a retired lawyer who lives in California, filed an 8-page complaint in Springfield, Massachusetts, near Cosby’s home. Green has alleged since a 2005 Today show appearance and Philadelphia Enquirer Interviw that the comedian drugged and assaulted her back in the 1970s. Now she is maintaining that every time Cosby asserts her claims are untrue, he is calling her a liar and thus defaming her reputation. “I want it put to a jury,” Green said during a news conference. “I want it to be ended, finally, and I want my name restored.”

USA Today reports Joseph Cammarata, a DC-based personal injury lawyer who represented Paula Jones in her suit against Bill Clinton in 1994, filed suit for Green. Cammarata maintained that the lawsuit was necessary because it will force Cosby to answer questions about his conduct in court, even though the statute of limitations for the sexual assault accusations have passed.

Cosby faced a civil suit from another woman back in 1995, Andrea Constand, who filed accusing him of battery and assault. That case was finally settled in 2006 but Cosby still faces another suit from another accuser, Judy Huth. Huth filed in California 2 weeks ago, alleging emotional distress from a reported assault when she was 17 years old.

Cosby’s lawyer Martin Singer reported he and his client were “very confident we will prevail in this proceeding.”
