‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ to receive a DC Comics prequel adaptation

Rocksteady Studios’ upcoming game, Batman: Arkham Knight, is set to receive a prequel comic, DC Comics has announced.

The comic will open directly after the events of developer Rocksteady’s previous game, Batman: Arkham City. Bruce Wayne is broken, having been seriously wounded in Arkham City both physically and mentally. As he tries to recover, he begins to doubt the need for the Batman in Gotham City. Bruce contemplates hanging up the cape and cowl, leaving his city to survive on its own.

“But as the sun rises in Gotham City, dangerous new threats emerge from the shadows… and the Arkham Knight is just beginning,” said DC.

This comic will bridge the gap between Arkham City and Arkham Knight and introduce players to the Arkham Knight, an original character created by Rocksteady. It takes place entirely in the Arkham continuity, allowing the developers to further expand their universe. Fans of the series will recall a similar, continuity-expanding prequel comic released in 2011, prior to the release of Arkham City.

The comic joins DC’s Digital First slate in the spring of 2015.  The series will be written by Peter J. Tomasi (Batman and Robin) with art provided by Victor Bogdanovic (Reality Check) and Art Thibert (Trinity). Dan Panosian will be the cover artist on the series. The first issue will be launching on Mar. 11, 2015 with two variant covers, one by Gary Frank and the other featuring art from the game.

Batman: Arkham Knight, the conclusion of Rocksteady’s award-winning trilogy, will be released on Jun. 2, 2015. The game will be launching on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Windows.
