‘Odyssey’ crew members attacked in Morocco

Two crew members, a first assistant director and a make-up artist, working on NBC’s drama Odyssey were attacked and hospitalized while filming in Morocco.

The two Odyssey crew members were attacked by a group of youths who tried to rob them as they left a restaurant late at night near their apartment in Marrakech Plaza. A fight is believed to have broken out as the crew members defended themselves, which lead to injuries that required medical attention.

Line producer Ahmed Abounouom told Deadline, “They had to go to hospital with some broken hands but hopefully they will be OK. This could have happened anywhere in the world. It was not on the set and it had nothing to do with the project.””

There will be no delay in filming, according to Abounouom.

Morocco has become a hot spot for Hollywood filmmakers to use for Middle Eastern or exotic locations in recent years. Although, some its neighbors in this particular North African region can be particularly dangerous, Morocco has kept itself fairly sheltered from this turmoil.

Morocco has attracted high profile projects to film in their country, including American Sniper, Game of Thrones, and Mission: Impossible 5.

The country also has the newest James Bond instalment filming there in a few weeks, as well as Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Michael Bay’s The Tempest, and Weinstein Co’s epic TV series Book of the Deadare shooting there in the coming months.

Odyssey is a live action drama in the vein of Traffic written by Adam Armus, Nora Kay Foster, and Peter Horton. The show will also be directed by Horton.

The show follows an international conspiracy that explodes when three strangers’ lives unexpectedly collide — a female soldier stranded in North Africa, a corporate lawyer working for a U.S. corporation allegedly funneling money to Jihadi groups, and and a political activist who claims to have unearthed a massive military-industrial conspiracy.

Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli and Jake Robinson all star.

Armus, Foster and Horton will be executive producing with Simon Maxwell, Mikkel Bondesen, Henrik Bastin and Kristen Campo for Universal TV, Fabrik Entertainment and Red Arrow Entertainment Group.
