A fight outside of a bar in Philadelphia early Wednesday resulted in the death of one of Nicki Minaj’s tour members and left another in critical condition. The two members had arrived in Philadelphia two days earlier, according to Minaj’s Twitter post.
The Bang Bang singer wrote that two of her team members were “stabbed last night in Philly.” She said that “one was killed” and that they had only been in the city rehearsing for two days.
Police confirmed that the two men were stabbed in the West Oak Lane section of the city outside of Che’ Bar and Grill. The crew member who died was identified as Devon Pickett of New York. The identify of the man in critical condition has not been released.
Pickett, 29, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a hospital. He suffered several stab wounds, according to police. The other man, who is 27 according to Associated Press, was stabbed in the arm and the left side. Both men were taken to the hospital in a vehicle before police arrived on the scene.
According to the LA Times, a police source said that the men were approached by two or three armed men as they were walking a friend to her car. The men reportedly began pushing Minaj’s team members. The details of the event have not been confirmed by police.
Minaj called the event a “senseless act of violence” that stole the life of a “great guy” on Twitter. She added that it was “so sad.”
According to her website, Minaj’s tour is set to begin in Europe on March 16. The rapper was born in Trinidad, but she grew up in New York. Minaj released her third studio album The Pinkprint in 2014. Her recent hits include Anaconda and Bang Bang, her pop collaboration with Ariana Grande and Jessie J.
