Kodi Smit-McPhee will be the X-Men franchises new Kurt Wagner, also known as Nightcrawler.
The character first appeared in X2: X-Men United when he made his debut with the action packed sequence where he stormed the White House. Alan Cumming originally portrayed the character, but it looks like they are getting a new, younger face to wear the blue skin and pointy tail.
The director, Byran Singer, broke the news on his Instagram account:
“Excited to welcome @kodismitmcphee to the cast of #XmenApocalypse as young #Nightcrawler,”
McPhee can previously be seen in films like The Road and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. He also was a lead voice in ParaNorman and has recently been rumored to be on the shortlist to play Marvel’s new Spider-Man.
Nightcrawler is a fan favorite character within the X-Men universe. Like Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), his powers curse him with blue skin. Although unlike Mystique, he has a tail, adhesive hands and feet, as well as the ability to teleport.
X-Men: Apocalypse will take place in the 1980s with the younger cast of characters established in X-Men: First Class and were continued in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Kodi Smit-McPhee will be joining a cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, and James McAvoy. The film is currently scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.
