Christina Aguilera was “speechless” when she first held her newborn daughter, Summer Rain, back in August, according to a new interview with People magazine.

She said it was “just pure bliss” having her baby laying on her, and that the feeling is “what life is about.” Aguilera, who is now 34 and one of the stars on NBC’s The Voice, said she remembered vividly first welcoming the baby on Aug. 16 and “having her skin on my skin.”

The baby weighed 7 1/2 lbs, and has a big brother named Max, who is 7. She said that Summer and Max “are the center of my universe.”

During the interview, Aguilera talked about the difficulties of juggling work and motherhood. After a successful singing career that included number one hits like “Genie in a Bottle” and “What a Girl Wants,” she has become a TV star on NBC’s The Voice as one of the judges. Season 8 of that series will premier on Feb. 23.

She is also recording an album and producing a TV series for ABC Family, and will be a guest star this spring on Nashville as a pop singer who wants to become a country star.

She admitted that being a parent is a full-time job on its own, but she learned to prioritize, and that her children always come first.

Aguilera also discussed her decision to name the child Summer Rain, an unusual name for sure. She made the choice because summer is a “time of spreading warmth and light,” and that she chose “Rain” her middle name because it “replenishes and brings new life.” She said she wanted her daughter to have an inspiring name that prompted thoughts of love and joy.

Aguilera said that she loves her fiance, Matthew Rutler, but the two are not rushing to get married or even set a date, saying that they were both secure in their love for each other and don’t need a wedding to prove it.
