Amazon Studios and veteran producers Sid and Marty Krofft (Land of the Lost, Chicken Little) are developing a reimagined pilot of their classic 70s children live action series Sigmund And The Sea Monsters.

The show originally centered on brothers Johnny and Scott Stuart, who discover a friendly young sea monster named Sigmund.  Sigmund refused to frighten people, so he was thrown out by his undersea family.

Marty Krofft said, “Sid found Sigmund swimming in the ocean as seaweed. Boy, are we lucky to re-create Sigmund and the Sea Monsters with Roy Price and Tara Sorensen at Amazon Studios.”

This live-action fantasy show was a groundbreaking achievement and was a mainstay of the Saturday morning programming, which had previously only be exclusively cartoons.

They had three shows hit the air before Sigmund And The Sea Monsters. They made their television debut in 1969 with H.R. Pufnstuf, which centered on a boy, a talking flute, and a six-foot dragon. Their next show was The Bugaloos in 1970 and then Lidsville followed that in 1971.

Their big hit of Sigmund And The Sea Monsters didn’t come until 1974 and they hit the major jackpot the following year with Land Of The Lost in 1975.

Sid and Marty Krofft have been in the entertainment biz for a really long time and it’s great to see them reimagine one of their classics in the digital space.
