LeBron James featured in first trailer for Judd Apatow’s upcoming ‘Trainwreck’

When LeBron James posted pictures of himself on the set of Judd Apatow’s upcoming film Trainwreck last summer, rumors began to spread that the basketball star will have a small cameo in the comedy. James’ role in the film was finally revealed when the first trailer for the film was released on Wednesday, and it appears he will actually have more of a guest star position and play a comedic, Downton Abbey-loving version of himself.

James first hinted at his participation in the film by posting a picture of himself with the film’s star and co-writer Amy Schumer onto his Instagram account last July, and captioning it “The lovely/beautiful Amy Schumer and I on set of “Trainwreck”. #GettingMyActinOn #ShesHilarious #Comedy #StriveForGreatness.” The first official Trainwreck trailer reveals that he will play “LeBron,” a close friend to Bill Hader’s surgeon character. He gives Hader dating advice and complains that he can’t go to practice because he’s worried that his teammates will spoil the latest episode of Downton Abbey for him if he goes.

“My boy got intimate. Sexual intercourse. Ohh,” says James when he finds out that Hader slept with Amy Schumer’s central character, one of his most amusing one-liners in the trailer.

Trainwreck will also be Amy Schumer’s first time on the big screen. The comedian first made a name for herself after placing fourth on the fifth season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and placing second on Comedy Central’s Reality Bites Back. The film follows Schumer, a writer at a men’s magazine who doesn’t believe in monogamy or the institution of marriage, as she seemingly and accidentally falls for Hader’s sports surgeon character.

Daniel Radcliffe, Saturday Night Live cast member Vanessa Bayer, and WWE wrestler John Cena will all also star in the film, which will premiere at this March’s South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas before its nationwide opening on Jul. 17.
