Exit stage left. One of the premiere ladies of Dancing with the Stars, Karina Smirnoff, announced on Monday that she would not be returning for the upcoming 20th season.
Smirnoff, 37, made the announcement on her Instagram page, writing, “I’ve decided to focus on some other exciting endeavors including adding author to my resume. I have absolutely loved dancing for all of you for all these years and feel blessed to have been given a platform to put my passion for dance, choreography and creativity on display.”
As US Magazine reports, the Ukrainian beauty joined Dancing with the Stars in its third season in 2003, partnering Extra host Mario Lopez and coming in second place. She appeared in every season but one after that, taking home the top honor of the Mirrorball trophy with actor and veteran Victor Martinez in season 13. Last season, she and partner Randy Couture were the third couple voted off.
Smirnoff promised that her fans “will be seeing more of me in new arenas in the days and weeks to come” and promoted her first book, We’re Just Not That Into You—Dating Disasters from the Trenches, released on Monday. While she admitted that the show “will always have a special place in my heart,” she asked fans to transfer their loyalty and read the book.
As the Daily Mail reports, Smirnoff is well-known for her dating escapades. She was linked to fellow Dancing with the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovsky and dated MLB pitcher Brad Penny. She announced her engagement to actor Jason Adelman last year.
