As the stress mounts, Rosie O'Donnell retreats.
It has been confirmed that, for the second time, Rosie O’Donnell is leaving ABC’s The View. Next week will be her last on the show, and then she will be focusing on her family and personal well-being after splitting up with her wife, Michelle Rounds, back in November. “Rosie has teens and an infant at home that need her attention,” stated O’Donnell’s rep, Cindi Berger. She also says that, “ABC has been wonderfully understanding and supportive of her personal decision to leave The View.”
Rosie certainly won’t be the first to leave the set of The View. The show already lost Rosie once back in 2007, and reports say that the ABC show has been in a state of disarray since its founder, Barbara Walters, left the show last May. Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd have also exited the panel since then. When ABC brought Rosie back on the show last year, they got more than they bargained for as she started bringing the on-camera discussions backstage. She reportedly had heated arguments back-stage with just about every member of the panel, including the host, Whoopi Goldberg. Sometimes she would not even wait until the cameras stopped rolling to get vicious with her co-stars.
Those close to Rosie say that she has been struggling with the stress from the turmoil in her private life as well as on the set of The View. There were already discussions happening at ABC about making changes to the host cast, and it seems Rosie decided to jump, of course for personal reasons, before facing the prospect of getting pushed.
