Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt both had wildly successful commercial sales for their movies in the past year, so when rumors start swirling that they are in talks to costar in an upcoming sci-fi romance, people get excited. Lawrence’s success with the Hunger Games trilogy was amplified by part one of Mockingjay being the highest grossing film of 2014. Pratt hit it big with The Lego Movie and will soon be seen in Jurassic World.
Passengers will be a project of Sony and has already secured director Morten Tyldum of The Imitation Game. The plot of the movie is about a man who wakes up from a cryogenic sleep while traveling on a spaceship, and decides to wake up a woman to keep him company over the next 90 years of the journey. Pratt and Lawrence are being considered for the roles respectively.
This deal is far from being made, as complicated as signing deals can become one of the issues is simply just the shooting schedules already in the books for both actors. Lawrence is set to star in Joy with David O. Russell, as well as X-Men: Apocalypse.
Passengers is one of the movies that has actually been passed around for years, and actually Keanu Reeves was at one point expected to star alongside a love interest of Rachel McAdams. Reese Witherspoon has also been considered at another point in time.
The film will be produced by Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur of Moritz’s Original Film, alongside Michael Maher with Start Media, and Stephen Hamel of Company Films. The scriptwriter is Jon Spaihts, who was responsible for the screenplay of Doctor Strange.
Whatever happens with casting, there is already considerable excitement about Passengers thanks to the involvement of Tyldum as the director, who is particularly hot after recently being nominated for Best Director for The Imitation Game.
