Last night, an all new Nashville aired on ABC. Viewers had been impatiently waiting since mid-December when the show went to winter break.
In a follow up to Rayna James calling off the wedding between her and co-country music star, Luke Wheeler, tension is high. Luke believes Deacon Claiborne, Rayna’s ex-lover and long-time friend, is the reason for the break up, but Rayna does not admit to this. She says she has called off the wedding due to all kinds of reasons, but no matter the reason, Luke does not take the decision lightly. He is less than pleased when Rayna publicly announces the wedding has been called off, and Luke decides to throw a private concert party for the first 500 fans that arrive to his place. During this concert, he plays a new song he wrote obviously directed towards Rayna, saying how she will never find another guy like him.
Meanwhile, Jeff Fordham requests Teddy’s help in cleaning up a mess from a party at his place. Leila Grant had just seen her husband, Will Lexington, who is gay, sleeping with another girl. After living this secret for so long, and then seeing her husband in bed with another girl, she can not take it any longer. She takes pills that were given to her by Jeff with alcohol and jumps into the pool. In last night’s episode, Leila is rushed to the hospital, where hospital staff questions Will about Leila having suicidal thoughts. Once Leila finally awakens, she asks for Will and admits to him that she saw him with another girl, and she can not take living a lie one more minute. Will then enlists Jeff’s help in destroying the video from the reality show that was taken when Will admits to Leila that he is gay so word will not spread.
Towards the end of the episode viewers are given what they have been anticipating throughout the entire show. Rayna reveals her feelings to Deacon about how she still loves him, but she needs time to figure things out. Although fighting liver cancer, and not knowing how much time he will have left, he tells Rayna to take as much time as she needs to figure it out. In the end, Scarlett, Deacon’s niece, dials her mom’s number, which is a huge step for Scarlett since her onstage melt down when her mom came to surprise her while on tour.
This thrilling drama leaves viewers hanging off the edge of their seats. No one knows how the story will end, because it always leaves people hanging. Now anxious spectators have to wait one more week until next Wednesday night to discover what will happen next. Will they be surprised by the outcome, or do they have an idea of what is coming?
