Rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight faces life in prison after being charged with murder and attempted murder in the fatal hit and run of two men late Monday night.
This isn’t the first alleged murder headline for the 49-year old Knight, who was believed to be involved in the revenge killing of rapper Biggie Smalls, aka the Notorious B.I.G., after the slaying of his West Coast rival, Tupac Shakur, back in 1996. The LA Times would later uncover proof that B.I.G. had in fact payed the Southside Crips, a gang out of Compton, a $1 million bounty to gun down Tupac. Knight has vehemently denied involvement in either incident, and to this day, the murder of Tupac remains a topic for conspiracy theorists.
Knight’s present situation, however, couldn’t be further from theory. Allegedly, he ran two men over with his car after a alternation on the set of a video shoot promoting the upcoming biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” based on the rise of the underground hip-hop group N.W.A.
The two victims are actor Cle “Bone” Sloan and his friend Terry Carter, who did not survive the accident. According to the felony complaint filed in LA County Superior Court, Knight was driving a Ford Raptor in excess of the speed limit.
Knight has thus far denied having purposefully hit either Sloan or Carter. His attorney James E. Blatt, released a statement claiming that Knight had been attempting to flee the set after being attacked by at least two men, and was in fact a victim himself.
If found guilty of attempted murder, Knight could end up spending the rest of his life behind bars.
Knight is most widely recognized as the co-founder of Death Row Records, a music label that’s client list has included such artists Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Outlawz and Dr. Dre.
