Last year, Marvel and Netflix decided to team up to create four original series for comic book heroes, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, which will all lead up to a The Defenders series.
Today, Netflix released the first trailer for the first series to come out Daredevil. It is dark, stylistic, and bloody.
The show will be starring Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) as Matt Murdoch, who was blinded as a child but his other four senses have been supernaturally enhanced to compensate. He uses these super senses to detect things like minute changes in heart rate or temperature, which enables him to get a better sense of his surroundings.
Additionally, he has the strength, speed, endurance and acrobatic skills of an Olympic-level athlete, whilst being an expert at a martial arts technique that mixes American boxing and the Japanese arts of ninjutsu, judo, and aiki-jujutsu. He fights injustice by day as a lawyer, and at night as the vigilante hero of the show’s title.
In the trailer, Cox asks forgiveness from a priest. Not for things he’s done, it’s for what he’s about to do. “I’m just trying to make my city a better place,” he says.
Vincent D’Onofrio as The Kingpin, Rosario Dawson as The Night Nurse and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page will all co-star alongside Charlie Cox starting on April 10th, when all 13 episodes will premiere on Netflix.
