Suge Knight officially charged with murder

He is definitely not a good knight. The Los Angeles Times reports that rap music mogul Marion Knight, better known as “Suge,” has been charged with murder in the hit and run death of Terry Carter on Thursday January 29th.

Knight, 49, initially shot to fame for co-founding Death Row Music with now legendary producer Dr. Dre in 1991. In the past few years, however, he has become more known for his legal troubles than his music presence.

In 1997 Knight was sentenced to nine years in prison for violating parole from an assault conviction. Released in 2001, he returned to prison for violating that parole in 2003. He was arrested again in 2008 for aggravated assault.

Knight is also known for being the driver of the BMW in which rapper Tupac Shakur was a passenger when he was shot and killed in 1996. Knight himself was shot six times inside a nightclub last August but survived. He filed for bankruptcy in 2006.

This latest trouble hit the news last Thursday, when Knight had an argument with Carter and with Cle “Bone” Sloan on the set of new film biopic Straight Outta Compton in California. Knight got into his truck and ran over both men, killing Carter. Knight’s lawyer, James E. Blatt, maintains Knight was merely attempting to escape and accidentally hit the victims. LA prosecutors, however, are arguing that the act was intentional. There is reportedly surveillance video of the incident from the set.

Knight’s bail was originally set at $2.2 million but was revoked, as prosecutors felt he was a repeat offender and a flight risk. Knight faces life in jail if convicted.
