‘Frozen’ returns in new animated short

The cast of the highest grossing animated film ever Frozen has returned in the new animated short film Frozen Fever. All of the original cast members Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Josh Gad (Olaf) and Jonathan Groff (Kristoff) will return for the seven-minute movie and the next chapter of the highly-craved story.

Disney released five still shots and details on the short film Monday. The film will catch fans up on how the kingdom Arendelle has been doing since the end of the last movie.

The short will also include an elaborate birthday party for Anna that reunites Kristoff, Elsa, Anna and Olaf. Elsa plans the party for Anna, but she runs into trouble when she gets a cold that tampers with her magical powers. Co-director Jennifer Lee told USA Today that Elsa’s cold is unusual. She added that events occur that “wreak a little havoc.”

Additionally, the animated short will include a new original song written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. These were the writers who wrote the Oscar-winning tune “Let it Go” and the rest of the original movie soundtrack.

The images were posted to Disney’s Frozen Facebook page Monday, and by Tuesday afternoon, they acquired more than 119,000 likes. Most of the reactions were enthusiastic, but some griped about wanting to see a full-length movie sequel instead.

The five stills depicted all of the characters mentioned above. Elsa and Anna are shown in an image in their bedroom, and Anna’s hair is tossed in a manner similar to that of the original film. Elsa appears to be using her magic in another photo. A giant sign reading “Happy Birthday Anna” appears above decorated tables in a different image. A family portrait of Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven appears in another. And an image shows Olaf eating some birthday cake.

Frozen Fever will appear in theaters before Disney’s new live-action remake of Cinderella. The remake opens March 13.
