Conrad Hilton, the younger brother of socialite Paris Hilton, turned himself in to the FBI today after being charged with assault and intimidation of several flight attendants on a British Airways flight from London to Los Angeles in 2013.
Hilton became angry and argumentative almost immediately after the flight left the gate on July 31, frightening passengers and causing children to cry, according to the criminal complaint from the U.S. federal district court.
Hilton left his seat and began striding up and down the aisles, blocking flight attendants and disrupting drink service for 40 minutes. He eventually began speaking loudly and yelling profanities, threatening to kill crew members and allegedly throwing a punch at one.
According to witnesses, Hilton was so out of control that he began furiously punching the plane bulkhead only inches from a flight attendant’s face.
The flight crew was concerned that Hilton might have been under the influence of drugs due to his violent behavior. He allegedly said to one crew member, “If you wanna square up to me bro, then bring it on and I will [expletive] fight you,” according to the complaint. It was also alleged that passengers could smell marijuana coming from the bathroom, and believed Hilton to be the culprit.
Hilton also reportedly grabbed a flight attendant’s shirt and said, “I could get you all fired in five minutes. I know your boss. My father will pay this out, he has done it before. Dad paid $300,000 last time.”
After Hilton passed out, he was handcuffed to his seat by crew members and police eventually boarded the plane to escort him off. His attorney, Robert Shapiro, confirmed that Hilton had taken a sleeping pill before boarding the plane and suggested that he may have suffered unfortunate side effects.
