HBO promises ‘Justice has a price’ in ‘Game of Thrones’ season five trailer

Fans of George R. R. Martin’s action and murder-filled realm of Westeros were distraught when the author revealed Friday that the sixth book in his “Song of Ice and Fire” series won’t be coming out in 2015, but HBO did their best to appease Game of Thrones enthusiasts by releasing the trailer for the hit show’s fifth season. Originally released exclusively to those who watched the final two episodes of season four in IMAX theaters on Thursday night, the trailer promises more of the sort of lust, vengeance and violence that viewers have learned to expect since the award-winning show debuted.

While the first trailer for season five was meant to be only for the eyes of fans dedicated enough to tune into the series limited IMAX engagement, risk-taking audience members pirated the footage and quickly put it online. Hours later, the trailer was officially released on the show’s Facebook page.

Among the trailer’ highlights is an exchange between Littlefinger and Sansa Stark, who may finally be ready to fight back against the individuals who have been slowly killing off her family since her father’s shocking beheading at the end of the series’ first season.

“There is no justice in this world, not unless we make it,” states Littlefinger. “Avenge them.”

However, the true star of the trailer is fan-favorite Daenerys Targaryen, one of the many would-be rulers on a quest to sit on the coveted Iron Throne. The mother of dragons proclaims that she’s not going to stop the wheel, but instead plans on going to break the wheel altogether, implying that she’s finally ready to shake up the status quo back in Westeros. When Lord Varys and Tyrion Lannister discuss that the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms needs to be someone who is loved by millions and has a powerful army and the right family name, Varys refutes the popular imp’s remark that this ruler needs to be a male.

“Good luck finding him,” said Tyrion, to which Varys responded “Who said anything about him?”

While familiar faces such as Bran Stark, Meera Reed and Hodor won’t be seen this upcoming season, it will feature a dozen new characters, including the High Sparrow portrayed by Brazil actor Jonathan Pryce and Doran Martell, played by Alexander Siddig. Fans who don’t want the season’s plot spoiled are advised to avoid reading the comment sections on HBO’s official YouTube video for the trailer, since most commenters have read all five of Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels. Season five will debut on the cable channel on Apr. 12.
